Latest scores (first to 9)

Raj Hundal 9-6 Ernesto Dominguez, Rafael Martinez 7-9 John Morra

Stevie Moore 8-9 Ricky Yang, Dennis Hatch 5-9 Jayson Shaw

Naoyuki Oi 9-5 Evgeni Novosad, Karl Boyes 4-9 Daryl Peach

Rodney Morris 9-7 Mark Gray, Darren Appleton 7-9 Oliver Ortmann.

QUOTES: John Morra (Canada): "It was an awesome victory. In the middle of the match it looked like everything was in his favour but things turned around at 6-5. Then I got my opportunity and took it to my advantage so here I am in the last 16.

"I've played pretty well so far and been trying pretty hard practising a lot before this so I've paid my dues and maybe I can snap it off.

"It will be the biggest achievement if I was to win this tournament and I've got a decent shot - now I'm one step closer."

4.15pm: The rest of the last 16 are now known. Ricky Yang wins a hill-hill tie with Stevie Moore, John Morra overcomes Mexican veteran Rafael Martinez and Naoyuki Oi proves too strong for Ukrainian Evgeni Novosad

QUOTES: Oliver Ortmann (Germany): "I played pretty well but had a bit of luck. He was up 7-4 and he missed the 2-ball in the corner and that was a chance for me to come back. I broke well, it was going forward and backward but I got the victory.

"This is probably the toughest tournament I've ever and this is what the best players want. This is more like a World Championship. In the first stage I beat the Australian (Ben Nunan) but Oi beat me really badly. Then I beat Francisco Bustamante and pretty good. Darren Appleton is the defending champion but anything can happen in 9 ball.

"I know play Thorsten Hohmann and I can't wait to play him again as he beat me at the US open last time."

3.58pm: Defending champion Darren Appleton has crashed out of the competition. He was 7-4 ahead but Ortmann claimed five racks in a row and that saw him become the fourth German to advance. He now plays fellow German Thorsten Hohmann in the last 16.

QUOTES: Rodney Morris (USA): I played good at the beginning and he messed up a few racks. If I don't win this competition it would be a major disappointment. At least one person would be upset if I don't.

"It's a very tough field and no one has figured out the break yet."

3.37pm: Next man through is Rocket Rodney Morris. He beats England's Mark Gray 9-7.

QUOTES: Daryl Peach (England): "In that match none of us settled down. I had a couple of rolls early on and got my nose in front.

"It was a big match for both of us and it was a mega tough field and a tough draw with a fellow Englishman.

"So there was a bit of added pressure and you try to block it out but sometimes you can't. I can definitely win and at the end of the day I've won the World Championship. I've also won two out of four on the Euro Tour and won two out of two GB9 events.

"I've beaten Efren Reyes 9-6 to qualify for the last 32 and now the wheels are starting to turn."

3.23pm: Daryl Peach, the 2007 world champion, is back in the Masters. He overcomes fellow Englishman Karl Boyes 9-4.

QUOTES: Raj Hundal (India): "It's tough for everyone and you saw that in the qualifiers where you had Mika v Ralf and that's normally a semi-final.

"You have great players everywhere and there's not a soft draw. Even the lady players are capable of beating everyone so for me this is the tougher than a World Championship.

"I've played in the World Championships with guys that I think I'm guaranteed to win against but here I'm scared as there are champions all over the place.

"A lot of great players went out 2-0 so to get into the last 16 is an achievement. I've playing better than ever, am focused and coming in off a good win in Sweden so I know what heart it takes.

"The heart will never be a problem, it's just about getting shots at the right time but a lot of guys are thinking the same.

"It's always nice to play in Matchroom events and if Matchroom stopped promoting pool then I would stop playing pool. I'm pumped up and now I'm hungry for blood."

3.05pm: The next man through is Raj Hundal, who beat Ernesto Dominguez 9-6. Hundal knows what it takes to win this tournament having triumphed in 2005. He is now back in the televised stages and in with a chance of more glory.

2.51pm: Latest scores include Raj Hundal 5-3 Ernesto Dominguez, Stevie Moore 3-2 Ricky Yang, Karl Boyes 3-7 Daryl Peach, Rodney Morris 5-1 Mark Gray and Darren Appleton 4-2 Oliver Ortmann.

QUOTES: Charlie Williams (USA): "I'm playing pretty solidly and not missing too many balls. I don't get to practise as much but I feel good and going to fight it through. At this point anyone can win the tournament.

"There's no one left in the tournament that's an overwhelming favorite. If Shane Van Boening had been still in it I would've said him as he has won five tournaments in a row but he has already gone out."

2.43pm: Charlie Williams wins an epic. It's 9-8 for Williams and there will be no players from Chinese Taipei in the tv stages of the 2010 World Pool Masters.

QUOTES: Jayson Shaw (Scotland): "Reaching the last 16 is probably my greatest achievement in pool. I've played in the IPT but this had topped it.

"I've been playing pretty good and won a few things at 9-ball so I thought if I get my chances I can take them. I'm just as good as anybody when I get among the balls.

"A lot of people didn't know me or but I've beaten Lee Van Corteza and Dennis Hatch, the MVP at the Mosconi Cup so I'm just over the moon."

2.30pm: Jayson Shaw has proved to be the surprise player of the tournament. He knocked out Lee Van Corteza yesterday and today triumphs over Mosconi Cup MVP Dennis Hatch 9-5.

QUOTES: John Schmidt (USA): "It was very tough. I lost my break the entire set apart from the last game. He (Klatt) was hooking me and running out so he played great. I haven't figured out the break at all.

"This is one of the toughest tournaments I've ever been in and I've seen eight world champions not even get into the money stage.

"The way I'm breaking I don't like my changes and maybe that will change but I will have to go with the cut break."

2.20pm: Sickening for Jason Klatt. He was 5-1 up on John Schmidt and then 8-7 ahead. But Schmidt, not for the first time this tournament battles to a fantastic victory.

QUOTES: Thomas Engert (Germany): "It was a horrible match. Normally if I had these chances I would've lead 5-0 but it was only 3-2. I missed so many chances but then I played a bit better but I was struggling but that's what you have to do to get into the tournament.

"I'm happy to be there in the last 16 and it was a good result but it should've been more. I practise a lot at home but in the last year I haven't played many tournaments.

"I have to play more matches and tournaments but I'm fighting hard."

2.05pm: American Johnny Archer has been eliminated after a 9-6 loss to Thomas Engert. Engert becomes the third German to qualify already.

2.00pm: A brave effort from Marcus Chamat ends in vain. He fought back from 5-0 down to lead 7-6 but eventually lost 9-7.

1.52pm: Four players are on the hill. Jason Klatt, Dennis Orcollo, Lo Li-wen and Thomas Engert are all one rack away from the last 16.

QUOTES - Ralf Souquet (Germany): "I was worried and losing 4-0 you can never be comfortable. I had to wait for a mistake. I had to dig deep for every single game and make balls on the break to stay at the table. But he scratched twice and missed another ball so that made it possible.

"One of the goals was to get as far as the television stages and it's always nice to play in front of the tv cameras. Now the tournament starts - that's how I see it."

1.33pm: A fantastic recovery from Ralf Souquet. He trailed 4-0 and looked to be heading out of the tournament. But fought back to win 9-7

QUOTES - Niels Feijen (Holland): "We both played well but Thorsten just broke better. He created his chances and won the match."

QUOTES - Thorsten Hohmann (Germany): "I made one silly mistake but my break was working for me. Niels played great and made jump shots but I had three or four break and runouts.

1.20pm: Holland's hopes of a second World Pool Masters winner are over. Alex Lely won the tournament in 1999 but Niels Feijen could not follow in his footsteps and lost 5-9 to Thorsten Hohmann. There are some unhappy faces among the Dutch contingent in the press room.

QUOTES - Roberto Gomez (Philippines): "I played normally but he (See) played badly and missed a lot of shots so I really didn't play that well."

1.12pm: Roberto Gomez is the second man through. He beats Holland's Huidji See 9-4.

1.02pm: Japan's Toru Kuribayashi is the first man into the last 16. He will be performing in the televised stages later today. He beats Kuo Po-Cheng 9-3.

12.57pm: Souquet is grinding away on table three and you can never write off the Kaiser. He punishes a miss from Do on the 2-ball and pulls it back to 5-5.

12.52pm: Jason Klatt leads John Schmidt 5-1 but a 1-9 combination pulls it back to 5-2.

12.48pm: Chamat leaves the 2-ball on in the sixth but then still wins his first rack of the match and he then follows that with another but still trails 5-2.

12.41pm: Ralf Souquet is trying to force a comeback but still trails 5-2. Jason Klatt leads 4-1 over John Schmidt. Klatt misses a 1-ball in the fifth but it does not matter. Schmidt can't capitalise and is struggling.

12.39pm: Referee Jay Helfert is called into action to settle a dispute between Roberto Gomez and Huidji See. Current score 4-3 to Gomez.

12.37pm: Dennis Orcollo is in fine form. He leads 5-0 and has been flawless. Chamat has had a kick-shot, a jump shot and a safety in five racks.

12.29pm: Elsewhere, Toru Kuribayashi leads 3-1 over Kuo Po-Cheng, while Niels Feijen is trailing 2-1 to Thorsten Hohmann.

12.24pm: Roberto Gomez defeated Huidji See in a hill-hill clash on Wednesday. It could be another close one today. Gomez leads 3-2.

12.20pm: There's a potential huge shock developing on Table 3. Ralf Souquet, who produced a masterful performance to thrash Mika Immonen 9-0 yesterday, is currently 4-0 behind to unknown Vietnamese qualifier Do Hoang Quan.

12.00pm: Right, half have been eliminated in the toughest Masters event ever. But we are only just getting warmed up. Welcome to Day Three of the World Pool Masters. Stay here for all the latest news and information.
