LATEST SCORE: (RACE TO 9, WINNER BREAKS) GERMANY 9-6 PHILIPPINES A

QUOTES: THORSTEN HOHMANN (GERMANY): "This is why we came here. Of course you have to fight, that's what it's all about.

"Who wants to see a Philippines A versus Philippines B final? It should be a great final of Philippines B v Germany."

RALF SOUQUET (GERMANY): "We're really looking forward to the final. This was a tough match but to play against Efren in a major final will be another highlight of my career - he is my favourite player and Bustamante is also a great player.

"I know we will have to fight and will be against a crowd of more than 1,500 Filipino fans but, hey, we have some fans here and fans in Germany and the rest of the world."

4.44pm: Souquet overhits the cue ball from the 5 to the 6 but Hohmann recovers with a fine pot. Moments later it is all over and a pumped up German side book a spot with the Philippines B in a mouth-watering final.

4.42pm: Alcano, not for the first time, misses a crucial shot as his blind pot attempt on the 1-ball stays on the cloth.

4.41pm: Souquet later misses a 1-ball. Philippines A, who are clinging on by their fingernails, need to make this count.

4.39pm: A solid break gives Germany a chance but Souquet decides to play safe instead of going for a risky 1-ball.

4.35pm: It is fitting that Souquet has the chance to win the rack for Germany, which he does. Germany on the hill and one rack away from a place in the final.

4.33pm: For the second successive rack Alcano misses a crucial ball. The 1-ball stays out and Souquet is certainly tempted. A fantastic shot sees him pot it and then get position for the 2-ball. Great play by the former World Champion. Top class.

4.25pm; The crowd settle down and it's back to the action. Alcano misses the blue two and it is a really bad miss. To make things worse, the ball is hanging over the pocket. Brian does not look happy. Germany inch closer to the final by sealing the rack and are now 7-6 up. The semi-finals have both been a fantastic advert for the sport. Pool has been the winner today.

4.20pm: There's a moment of glamour in between the racks as Brian Viloria, a Filipino boxer who is the current IBF Light Flyweight Champion, makes his way to his VIP seat and is immediately mobbed by the home fans. Where have you been Brian, why are you late!?

4.18pm: Ronnie Alcano pots the 9-ball and the home crowd, who had been quiet for a number of racks as their team were behind, wake up as it becomes 6-6.

4.15pm: It may well be all square again very soon as Hohmann is unsuccessful when trying to pot the 1-ball. All the seats are taking but it is so close, you will only need the edge of your seat!

4.12pm: Thorsten Hohmann's dry break in the 11th rack gives Philippines A a chance and they take it. Germany's two-rack advantage does not last long. 6-5 to Germany

4.07pm: It's a near-perfect break from Souquet as the 1-ball is deposited and with a shot on the 2-ball Germany can move further ahead. They do so and for the first time in this match one side is two racks ahead. 6-4 to Germany and the crowd are quiet.

4.03pm: Orcollo tries to leave the 3-ball safe on the bottom rail but a table-length bank from Souquet, who nudges the 6-ball off the rail in the process, puts Germany in the driving seat. Precision play from The Surgeon as the Europeans go on to win the rack. 5-4 Germany.

3.58pm: A glaring mistake from Alcano as he fails to make the 2-ball drop and it is even worse for the 2006 World Champion as the ball is left hanging over the edge of the pocket. However, Germany don't make them pay for that.

3.52pm: But wait a minute! Hohmann misses the red 3 and we should be level again. And we are as Philippines A make it 4-4. Every German rack won has been celebrated by a small group of fans with a German flag, now the Filipino fans respond by waving their countries flag. With Philippines B in the final later we will be seeing a lot more of that flag.

3.51pm: Hohmann's break is an illegal one and that triggers off a safety battle. Hohmann makes a 1-7 combination and then a later 2-8, which means Germany are on course to move ahead by two.

3.48pm: Orcollo makes an error, one of the first we've seen this match, when he misses the 1-ball and Germany capitalise on this. They move into the lead but there is a long, long way to go.

3.44pm: It's as tight and tense as we expected it to be and has the makings of another thriller in Manila. Philippines win the fifth and Germany win the sixth. Neither side has won two racks in a row yet.

3.30pm: Both sides share the next two racks so the score is 2-2 here at the SM North City Mall in Manila, Philippines.

3.27pm: There is controversy at the start of the second rack as the Filipino break is eventually called illegal after the players and referee study television footage. One ball is pocketed and one is definitely over the headstring. Another ball is close to being over the line but more than half of the ball is not, so therefore with this these rules it is judged as not crossing the headstring and therefore an illegal break. Germany then make it 1-1.

3.26pm: Germany break but still lose the opening rack as Philippines A go 1-0.

3.24pm: This match will do well to be as good as the first semi-final after Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante sneaked past China's Li Hewen and Fu Jianbo 9-8.

3.20pm: The second semi-final sees the German pairing of Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann, both former World Champions, take on Filipinos Ronnie Alcano and Dennis Orcollo.
