"Oscar and Dennis played really strong and the old schoolers did well and they deserved it.

2.51pm: Dennis Hatch is awarded the Most Valuable Player award for an inspirational performance that saw him win both singles matches and two out of three doubles match.

2.49pm: The 6-ball goes, the 8-ball follows, Van Boening eyes up the nine into the corner pocket.and makes it! USA WIN THE MOSCONI CUP

2.47pm: A 2-7 combination sets it up this one is over.

2.46pm: Van Boening's break is an illegal one but Souquet misses the 2-ball. That may be Europe's last shot.

2.45pm: Europe are left praying to stay alive. Van Boening is breaking to win the Mosconi Cup.

2.42pm: The cup is being transported from the press room to the arena as Van Boening moves one rack from victory.

2.39pm: Van Boening supergules the cue ball behind the 9-ball. He could soon be on the hill, especailly as Souquet scratches with his escape attempt.

2.35pm: USA are closing in on the glory. 4-2 to Van Boening. Europe need a miracle.

2.22pm: Souquet is normally one of the best safety players in the world but misjudges a tricky attempt. A ball is left on for Van Boening and America retake the lead. 3-2.

2.14pm: An excellent jump shot to pot the 2-ball from Souquet leads him to taking the fourth. 2-2.

2.11pm: Van Boening's not mastered the break and an illegal one gives Souquet the table.

2.04pm: Despite the 8-ball hanging over the pocket, Souquet declines a bank combination and opts to play safe. But he is too cautious and Van Boening makes the pot. That leads to him moving in front, the first time today he has been in the lead against Souquet. USA four racks from the Mosconi Cup.

2.01pm: Souquet misjudges a safety in the second to bring The Shooter back to the table and it's soon 1-1.

1.57pm: Two loose safety shots, one from each man, but Van Boening's one is the expensive one and Souquet dishes up. 1-0 to the German.

1.53pm: A nervous lag from Van Boening comes well short. USA will be hoping that's not a sign of things to come.

1.49pm: Hohmann clenches his fist after potting the 9-ball. Europe stay alive for at least one more match. They now need Souquet to beat Van Boening again, just as he did two hours ago.

1.45pm: Hohmann's on the hill and breaking for the match. The 1-ball goes down, it's a legal break and there's a shot on the 2-ball.

1.42pm: Hohmann runs out the rest of the rack. 5-1 Europe are still breathing.

1.40pm: Archer scratches in the early stages of the sixth rack. Hohmann has ball in hand.

1.35pm: It's been a great performance from Hohmann. A 6-9 carom sees him extend his lead to 4-1. Archer has recovered from worse positions though and beat Darren Appleton 6-5 after trailing 5-1. If he does similar here then America win the Mosconi Cup. If he doesn't then the next match will be a repeat of the first match of the day - Shane Van Boening versus Ralf Souquet.

1.24pm: After another Hohmann safety, Archer misses a 4-9 combination. Hohmann makes him pay and now leads by two. 3-1 to Hohmann.

1.23pm: But Hohmann misjudges a safety and Archer pots the red 3 but then misses the pink 4.

1.19pm: A dry break from Archer and Hohmann has a shot on the 1-ball.

1.17pm: Hohmann restores his lead. 2-1 to the European.

1.16pm: Hohmann leaves a potential jump shot on the 2-ball, Archer turns it down, Hohmann jumps and gets a 2-6 combination. He then fails with a 2-9 carom but leaves Archer snookered. The safety attempt leads to the ball being hit but a chance for Hohmann.

1.15pm: A legal break from Hohmann but he has no luck on the 2-ball and he pushes out.

1.14pm: Archer, recently inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame, shows his class again by benefiting from a miss on the 1-ball by Hohmann. 1-1.

1.12pm: A 1-9 bank into the corner pocket from Hohmann gives Europe a crucial lead.

1.10pm: America are now relying on Johnny Archer, the only man to have not lost in any singles or doubles match, to win the cup for them. He meets Thorsten Hohmann.

"I said I wanted to go second and win the cup for the team. When I found out I was playing Niels I just smiled and I couldn't have had a better draw."

12.52pm: An absolutely stunning victory from Hatch. 6-0. America need one point to win the Mosconi Cup.

12.50pm: An attempt at the orange five goes wrong. Feijen looks a beaten man.

12.47pm: Three balls off Feijen's break. A good opportunity to get off the mark.

12.45pm: It's 5-0. We haven't had a whitewash yet in this year's Mosconi Cup. Hatch is one rack away from the first 6-0 victory of the 2009 tournament.

12.43pm: Feijen tries to punch the red 3 home. He misses it and Hatch is in the groove again.

12.40pm: Feijen finally gets a chance and a tight safety sees Hatch trying to play a one-rail escape. But he misses the 1-ball and Feijen has ball in hand.

12.38pm: An immense performance from Hatch so far. And it is 4-0.

12.35pm: Two balls go down off Feijen's break. But the cue ball joins them. With ball in hand this should be 4-0.

12.34pm: Feijen has not done much wrong but finds himself 3-0 down. Hatch breaks and runs out the third.

12.31pm: "He's looking like a pool playing robot," says commentator Jim Wych as Hatch storms through the second. A hugely impressive performance from Hatch competing in his first Mosconi Cup.

12.29pm: Feijen breaks but an unfortunate double kiss on the 4-ball when attempting a safety gives The Hatchetman a chance for 2-0.

12.25pm: The second match of the day is between Dennis Hatch and Niels Feijen. The pair met yesterday and Hatch won 6-4. Feijen would love to get revenge. But he loses the opening rack. Hatch one up and fired up.

12.15pm: QUOTES: RALF SOUQUET (EUROPE): "It was very important for us to win. We were down 9-5 the US are only two games away from victory so we went into today as playing a regular tournament. Even though it's still a double elimination where we can lose once, we want to win every match.

"The first one was very important. and I'm really looking forward to every match. But we have to take it one step at a time and that was only the first step."

11.59am: Souquet is breaking for the match. Soon plays safe but Van Boening's miss with a jump cue on the 2-ball is his last shot of the match. Souquet rolls the 2-ball down the side rail and a 3-9 combination gives Europe the first point of the day.

11.53am: A confident break and run out from Van Boening extends the match for another rack. 5-3 to Souquet.

11.50am: In the seventh, Souquet leaves a tight safety behind the 7-ball. Van Boening does well to clip the red 3 and pot it but gets hugely unlucky as the cue ball nestles behind the 9-ball. He leaves the pink 4 on and Souquet moves to the hill.

11.41am: An illegal break by Van Boening in the sixth but Souquet's mistake leaves the 1-ball on. Another rack for the American.

11.37am: But Souquet gets back in momentum by claiming the fifth and leads 4-1.

11.31am: A double kiss on the blue 2 by Souquet leads to Van Boening getting off the mark.

11.27am: It isn't. 3-0 to Souquet. The Rocky theme tune was played during the highlights package and Van Boening is on the ropes after taking a barrage of heavy punches.

11.26am: A stunning break from Souquet sees three balls disappear. The rest of the rack should be no problem.

11.24am: Van Boening scratches off the break and doesn't get back to the table. Souquet is more serious than ever. He wants to win this cup again.

11.12am: It's a great start for Europe as Ralf Souquet claims the opener. He wins the lag with an inch-perfect shot then gets on top of a safety battle before Van Boening's jump shot leaves the 4-ball on. Souquet does the rest and Europe need a lot more of that today.

11.08 A highlights package of previous Mosconi Cups is played to a capacity crowd at the MGM Grand. If Europe recover from 9-5 down this could be the greatest day in the event's 16 year history.
