US Open 9-Ball Championship Prize Fund Increases To $375,000

The 2020 US Open 9-Ball Championship will have an increased prize fund of $375,000 with the winner set to pocket $60,000, Matchroom Multi Sport is pleased to announce.

The 44th staging of the historic billiards major will take place at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center, Las Vegas from April 13 until April 18. Joshua Filler will return as defending champion, with player entries set to open on Tuesday, August 13 – exactly eight months before the Championship begins.

After sold-out crowds, record TV ratings and a full field of 256 players for the 2019 US Open 9-Ball Championship, players are encouraged to enter the 2020 Championship early to avoid disappointment.

Prize money payouts will start from 97th place, with players reaching this stage receiving $1,000. Those who successfully progress from the double elimination stage will earn at least $5,000 with quarter-finalists taking home $7,750, semi-finalists earning $15,000 and the runner-up to be paid $30,000.

Matchroom Sport Chairman and BCA Hall of Fame promoter Barry Hearn said: “We wanted to reward the players because they have special talent, so we are delighted to be able to increase the prize-fund for the US Open 9-Ball Championship to a record-breaking $375,000.

“The US Open 9-Ball Championship was a phenomenal success in what for us was year one. We had over 100 players on the waiting list for the event, on top of the 256 field we had and we achieved some really impressive viewing figures around the world, so the game is in good health and is going to go from strength to strength and we cannot wait for the 2020 US Open 9-Ball Championship.”

Player entry fees will remain at $1,000 with Matchroom Multi Sport covering the entry fee for all previous US Open 9-Ball Champions. A deposit scheme will be in operation again, allowing players to reserve their place in the event for an initial $250 from Thursday, August 13. Entries will be processed by CueScore via www.matchroompool.com. Spectator ticket information will be available in due course at www.matchroompool.com.

The 2020 US Open 9-Ball Championship will be partnered by Diamond, who supply the Official Table; the cloth is supplied by Iwan Simonis and the Official Balls are Super Aramith by Saluc. Predator is the Official Cue of the event and Kamui are the Official Chalk and Tip.
